How many mock tests should an aspirant attempt before the exam?
IAT PREPARATIONIAT MOCK TEST
Mock tests are one of the most underrated parts of IAT preparation. Many aspirants keep studying but don’t sit for enough timed practice papers. The question is, how many mocks are enough?
There’s no fixed number, but based on experience, at least 15–20 full-length mock tests should be attempted before the exam. If you start early, you can plan one mock per week for the first few months, and in the last 2–3 months, increase it to two per week. The last 3–4 weeks before IAT should be entirely mock-focused.
Mocks help in three ways. First, they train you to manage time in a 3-hour exam. Second, they reveal your weak areas, so you know where to revise. Third, they reduce exam fear because you’ve already practiced in a similar environment.
But mocks are only useful if you analyze them. After each test, spend at least an hour checking why you got questions wrong. Was it a silly mistake, a concept gap, or lack of speed? Fixing these after every test can significantly raise your score.
In short: 15–20 mocks with detailed analysis is the sweet spot. Quality of practice matters more than the number, so don’t just take tests — learn from them.
