How should students decide which IISER campus to choose?

Since all IISERs offer the same degree recognition, the choice of campus usually depends on personal preferences and academic goals. Location is often an important factor.

Some may prefer a centrally located city like Pune, while others may like the peaceful environment of Thiruvananthapuram or the spacious, modern setting at Bhopal. Research strengths can also guide the decision.

For example, IISER Pune has strong collaborations with TIFR and IUCAA, IISER Mohali is notable for nanoscience projects, and IISER Kolkata has been active in climate and environmental research.

Campus culture and size may also matter, with older IISERs having larger alumni networks and newer ones offering more direct student–faculty interaction. Recent achievements across campuses, from drug discovery studies to renewable energy research, show that every IISER provides excellent opportunities.

The decision is less about prestige and more about which environment and academic focus suits the student best.
