What is the minimum board percentage required for IISER admission?
IISER ADMISSIONS
Many students preparing for IISER wonder if their board marks and subject choices will hold them back. The basic eligibility for IAT is 60% in Class 12 for General and OBC-NCL categories and 55% for SC, ST, and PwD categories. But confusion begins when students come from PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or PCBM backgrounds.
Mathematics is not compulsory for every IISER, yet having it as a subject gives students greater flexibility. PCB candidates can still apply, but they may face some restrictions later in course selection. PCBM students are also eligible, provided they meet the minimum percentage. IISc, however, often expects Mathematics as a core subject, which makes IISER more open for biology-focused students.
The lesson here is that IISER offers pathways for different subject combinations, but the preparation strategy and future course options depend heavily on whether Mathematics is part of the mix. Knowing this early helps students choose wisely.
